Introducing… The #DonorLove Rendezvous

As my hero/spirit animal/demi god George Carlin once said, “the status quo sucks.”

I love to learn. And it’s a good thing, because working in the social sector means a constant and ever changing learning curve. There is always more to learn, and new voices to listen to.

When I started Colludo, one of my guiding principles was that I was going to do things differently, and encourage others to as well. It’s not always easy – in a field where old ideas can get us very stuck, passionate voices that cry out “let’s try something else” are sometimes muffled by the same-old-same-old.

And this is why it is my absolute pleasure to announce something incredibly exciting and totally sideways.

I’m pleased to introduce to you the #DonorLove Rendezvous.

This event is the brainchild of two of the smartest fundraisers I know – Maeve Strathy and Rory Green. Like all great ideas, I believe the origin story here takes us to a late night conversation (perhaps fueled by wine, snacks, and comfortable pants) that ended up with the five sweetest words in the English language – fuck it, let’s do it.

Maeve and Rory imagined an event where fundraisers could come together and collaborate around the theme of donor love. This space wouldn’t be a typical conference – no tried and true “experts” at a podium, regular Joes and Josephines getting lost in the hallucinogenic patterns of hotel conference room carpet.

The #DonorLove Rendezvous brings together two of my core beliefs around the social sector – first, that we need to do more to connect people to causes (and one of the best way fundraisers can do this is by showing their donors some love); second, that everyone has something incredibly valuable to contribute to the conversation.

What works for Joe might not work for Josephine, but by god, they should be able to learn from each other.

Maeve and Rory, along with some of my most favourite fundraising rabble rousers, are planning a day that will be unlike any other panty hose mandatory, rubber chicken luncheon fueled conference you’ve ever been to. I am thrilled that Rory and Maeve have invited me to help lead the group through a few of my Playdate activities to get our mind grapes moving!

I am very excited to be a part of this event, and I CAN’T WAIT to meet you there.
